Installing Godex macOS Driver

This document describes the standard installation of the Godex printer driver in a macOS environment. Godex Linux and macOS drivers are based on CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System), which is a modular printing system for Unix and Unix-like operating systems that allows a computer to act as a print server.

For advanced installation and more information, please refer to documents provided with the driver in rastertoezpl-1.1.2/doc and CUPS documentation at https://www.cups.org/.

To install the Godex macOS driver, follow these steps:

1. Download the Driver

2. Install the Driver

  • Locate the downloaded `.pkg` file (e.g., `rastertoezpl-1.1.2.pkg`).
  • Right-click (or Control-click) the file and select "Open with" -> "Installer (default)"
  • Confirm any security prompts by clicking "Öffnen" (Open).
  • Proceed through the installation wizard.
  • Accept the GNU General Public License to continue the installation.
  • Click "Installieren" (Install) to perform the standard installation on your Macintosh HD.
  • After successful installation, you can choose to move the installer to the Trash.

3. Add the Godex Printer to macOS

  • Open "System Preferences" (Systemeinstellungen) on your Mac.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners" (Drucker & Scanner).
  • Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  • In the Add window, select the "IP" tab.
  • Input the IP address of your printer.
  • Select "HP Jetdirect - Socket" as the Protocol.
  • In the "Use" (Verwenden) dropdown, select "Other" (Andere).
  • A browse window will open; press `CMD + Shift + G` to bring up a "Go to Folder" subwindow.
  • Enter the path `/usr/local/share/ppd/godex` and click "Öffnen" (Open).
  • Select the required printer model (e.g., `godex-rt860i.ppd`) from the list and click "Open".
  • You can optionally change the printer's name.
  • Click "Add" (Hinzufügen).
  • The printer should now appear under "Printers & Scanners".

Important Note for USB Connection

If you are using a USB connection, you might need to send the command ^XSET,USBSPEED,0 to the printer via GoDoctor (from a Windows PC) or GoTools (on MAC) or through the web interface to configure the USB interface for use on a Mac system.

You can also use the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631; however, you might need to send commands to unlock or activate its web interface. For CUPS interface instructions, refer to the Linux driver installation guide's "Adding Godex printer to CUPS" section.
