How to reset printhead counter after changing printhead at GoDEX printer

How to reset printhead counter after changing printhead at GoDEX printer

With command ^XSET,TPHLENGTH customer can see current lenght and history of changing printheads if any exist

In this case from picture above we can see that there is no history of changing TPH - this just means that next command was not send when
printhead was changed. Here we introduce command: ^XSET,TPHLENGTH,0  with which we reset counter for printhead

And if we check again status from printhead counter we can see that it was restart and first value (how many meters printhead was printed) was saved.

This command works on V1.130v or later versions; V2.110s or later versions; FW V4.010j or later versions;

This command does not need to used on EZ2x50i & EZ6x50i and printheads for those printers have IC where is written this info and with command:

~~INTERNALCOMMANDT1 the LCD shows two values. First - how meters was print this particular printhead and second - how many meters print printer.

Installing Godex macOS Driver

This document describes the standard installation of the Godex printer driver in a macOS environment. Godex Linux and macOS drivers are based on CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System), which is a modular printing system for Unix and Unix-like operating systems that allows a computer to act as a print server.

For advanced installation and more information, please refer to documents provided with the driver in rastertoezpl-1.1.2/doc and CUPS documentation at https://www.cups.org/.

To install the Godex macOS driver, follow these steps:

1. Download the Driver

2. Install the Driver

  • Locate the downloaded `.pkg` file (e.g., `rastertoezpl-1.1.2.pkg`).
  • Right-click (or Control-click) the file and select "Open with" -> "Installer (default)"
  • Confirm any security prompts by clicking "Öffnen" (Open).
  • Proceed through the installation wizard.
  • Accept the GNU General Public License to continue the installation.
  • Click "Installieren" (Install) to perform the standard installation on your Macintosh HD.
  • After successful installation, you can choose to move the installer to the Trash.

3. Add the Godex Printer to macOS

  • Open "System Preferences" (Systemeinstellungen) on your Mac.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners" (Drucker & Scanner).
  • Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  • In the Add window, select the "IP" tab.
  • Input the IP address of your printer.
  • Select "HP Jetdirect - Socket" as the Protocol.
  • In the "Use" (Verwenden) dropdown, select "Other" (Andere).
  • A browse window will open; press `CMD + Shift + G` to bring up a "Go to Folder" subwindow.
  • Enter the path `/usr/local/share/ppd/godex` and click "Öffnen" (Open).
  • Select the required printer model (e.g., `godex-rt860i.ppd`) from the list and click "Open".
  • You can optionally change the printer's name.
  • Click "Add" (Hinzufügen).
  • The printer should now appear under "Printers & Scanners".

Important Note for USB Connection

If you are using a USB connection, you might need to send the command ^XSET,USBSPEED,0 to the printer via GoDoctor (from a Windows PC) or GoTools (on MAC) or through the web interface to configure the USB interface for use on a Mac system.

You can also use the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631; however, you might need to send commands to unlock or activate its web interface. For CUPS interface instructions, refer to the Linux driver installation guide's "Adding Godex printer to CUPS" section.

How to print DPL (Datamax printing language) on GoDEX printers with DPL fonts

How to print DPL (Datamax printing language) on GoDEX printers with DPL fonts

Each GoDEX FW today have DPL emulation. If print job request some fonts they need to be download to GoDEX printer via

standard Datamax driver. Here is example how to download Ariel

Download driver: https://www.seagullscientific.com/support/downloads/drivers/datamax-oneil/download/

Install for example  on same USB like GoDEX printer

Why it can not be used Golabel2 to download fonts for DPL:

Due to the commands for downloading and calling fonts defined by EZPL and DPL are different, the fonts downloaded by GoLabel  II through EZPL cannot be used by DPL. Therefore, the font downloaded by GoLabel II in this case can’t not be used by DPL. The downloaded fonts must be download by DPL commands or DPL Driver in order to be used by DPL. Also this is the only way to print the downloaded fonts in this case.

The downloadable fonts ID defined by EZPL is one Byte A to Z  .

The download font IDs defined by DPL are Two Bytes 03 – 99, 9A – 9Z, 9a – 9z  .

The call character format defined by DPL is S00 to Szz, U00 – Uzz, u00 – uzz, it is different from GoLabel via EZPL download fonts ID.

How to setup stop position for cutter when is sending ZPL label to GoDEX printer

How to setup stop position for cutter when is sending ZPL label to GoDEX printer

According to the ZPL command rules, the stop position after printing (^E value) is changed according to the device type (Tear-off, Peel-off, Cutter) set by ^MM.

For example, when the ^MMT Tear-off stop position (^E value) is set, it automatically changed to ^E16.

When the ^MMC Cutter stop position (^E value) is set, it automatically changed to ^E26.

~TA can be used to adjust the stop position, but the max. value can only be set to 120 dots.

So ZPL command can’t set ^E30 in ^MMT Tear -off mode.

Customers can  use ^XSET,LOCKCMD command to set (lock) ^E30 stop position.

For peeler use next command sto lock stop position

^XSET,LOCKCMD,00000000

How to use USB stick like external memory, for configuring GoDEX printer and Download files, for copy files from printer to USB stick

How to use USB stick like external memory, for  configuring GoDEX printer and Download files, for copy files from printer to USB stick

How to make USB with files and settings:

First step put USB flash into printer and wait until you see yellow icon on LCD – this mean that printer was recognize USB stick.

There will be created LABELDIR folder with subfolders

Then you can take out USB flash from printer and put it into PC.

Open GoLoader (part of GoTools) select USB stick and download fonts, labels ....

If you want to use USB flash like external memory this is it.

If you want from USB stick to copy those files to printer you need, after you download all files to USB flash , to click on ENABLE button and Auto File Copy will be created.

Third way is that you want also some commands to send to printer with or without files. In this case you need to open AutoCopy File and you will see something like this

First part are control parameters and then second part is commant to copy from external memory to internal memory.

For example if you want to send command for speed ^S3 (3”/sec), Drakness ^H8 you make file like below just first row must be empty

Then you  delete same file from USB stick and download this new file with GoLoader

Click Start download

Now if you open file from USB stick you will see new control characters (in this example it just send commands when you put it into printer with out files).

Also same procedure is possible with copy/ cut files from printer to USB stick just swich D and F (and must follow this procedure with empty first row and making new control character)

Here are more options

Before you make final configuration you can send commands aldo with GoDoctor

GoDoctor is part of GoTools - customer can download from Download section

How to skip empty label on roll with GoDEX printer

How to set GoDEX printer to skip empty label and not to show "MEDIA ERROR"

Video example: LINK

Use this command to increase the alarm length to the total length of the tabs with the number of pages allowed to be dropped.
n = total length of a label x number of labels allowed to be dropped.
The value of n must not exceed 10 labels. (it is no sense to use such a bad label roll.)

Description black mark paper:
Gap = 0 paper out len = 30dot + n (dot)
Gap > 0 paper out len = Gap*2.5 + n (dot)
Label GAP Sticker :
     Gap = 0 paper out len = 30dot + n (dot)
Gap > 0 paper out len = Gap*2.5 + n (dot)
Continuous paper: This command is invalid
paper out len = ((8 or 12)dot/mm+10 ) * 6

For example for ZX1300i

Commands: ^XSET,PAPEROUT,1225
                     ^XSET,MISSINGLABEL,0

^XSET,MISSINGLABEL,n

n=0  Ignore the missing labels and print the directly on the liner directly, the position of the coordinated maybe inaccurate.

n=1 After skipping the missing label, reprint the one before the missing one.

n=2 After skipping the missing label, continue with the serial number.

.

How to use GoDEX Perforation cutter on ZX1000i or GX4000i

How to use GoDEX Perforation cutter on ZX1000i or GX4000i

Perforation cutter have two blades. One for full cut and second for perforation cut.

So it is possible to use this cutter:

  1. Only perforation
  2. Only full cut
  3. Only full cut after print job (Batch cut)
  4. Only perforation  cut after print job (Batch cut)
  5. Perforation cut and at print job end full cut
  6. Inside one label to make aditional cut with doublecut option where you define offset
For example: you make one label with full cut 80mm but on 20mm you make perforation cut (ticket system)
  7. Multy-cut : Inside one label up to 15 perforation cuts and at end full cut
First 6 options are possible from GoLabel . Last  need to send command file to printer.

In Golabel there is option to define double cut

Also possible batch cut - this mean after print job is finish (you send 5 labels to print it will cut after 5 labels)

If you want to print 5 labels and to have 4 peroration cut and at end full cut this is possible with next steps:

You design label and after this you define option between label perforation cut and at end full cut

What programmer need to done:

At start of code need to send command how will be end cut : in our case full cut (^XSETCUT,MODE,0,2)

Then inside label to send for each perforation cut command:

Here is one example – in this example I am using dots to define when perforation cut will be made but alo is possible mm:

So label length is 150mm and 4 time it will make perforation cut and lats time full cut

How to print at from Linux to GoDEX printer with EZPL code without driver

How to print at from Linux to GoDEX printer with EZPL code without driver

Linux (udev) automatically creates a char device files for each connected USB printer in Linux.  Usually it is “/dev/usb/lp0”, for the first connected printer.

You can open this file (character device) and what you write to it, is send to printer, and what send the printer, you can read from the file.

For single test, send a command to printer, you can:

  echo "~V" > /dev/usb/lp0

or you can send a file with printer commands:

  cat "commands_file" > /dev/usb/lp0

You need to hae rights (sudo su)

How to send commands to the printer

To set up some particular functions, you might need to send a command to the printer.

This can be done in few ways, the easiest is to use either GoDoctor or GoLabel:

1. GoDoctor is a small useful tool for service technicians. It is basically an executable file (no need to install) that has few buttons with predefined commands as well as, you can input the command manually or make your own buttons with predefined functions/commands.

GoDoctor is a part of GoTools set and can be downloaded from our official website www.godexintl.com, or direct download link here (https://godex.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/pHoQ8cjP0VPq5djlBNaMuQ.file?v01) please note that the direct download link might get outdated after some time.

Extract the archive and run GoDoctor.exe on the left most upper corner you will find a button Port:

You can search and select the needed model here, the selected model will be shown on the bottom part of the GoDoctor window.

Click on the "Command Mode", an area to input the command will appear and you can input the command into it, after that click "Send". Alternatively, if you have the command set in a text file, you can also choose "Send file" and select the needed file.

If you will choose "Customize" you can also predefine your own buttons of often used functions:

e.g. the full factory default that will erase everything and set all settings back to default:

^XSET,LCDLOCK,0
~S,ESA
^XSET,LOCKCMD,00000000
~S,OFFSETX,0
~S,OFFSETY,0
~Q+0
~MDEL*
^D0
~~INTERNALCOMMAND+INIT

After doing so, you will have your own buttons in the TAB Customize (simple, yet very practical for repetetive tasks of a technician).

2. GoLabel. Another possible way is to use Command Area in GoLabel and send the commands through it:

3. Windows Driver. It is also possible to send the command via Windows driver, go to Printer Properties window, select Tools tab, Action -> Send Printer Command.

4. Printer Webserver (if printer is connected via IP port, you can input the IP address of the printer in the browser and access the webserver of the printer, default credntials are login: admin and pass: 1111)

There are also other possibilities like Hyperterminal, telnet, ftp and similar, yet, they are more advanced and used less often, so in case you would require such communication, please apply to Godex tech team for more information on that.

How to setup Liner rewinder UN-208 with GoDEX label printer

How to setup Liner rewinder UN-208

Description:

Liner rewinder is attend to rewinding of label liner that comes out from stripper module for  thermal transfer printers  EZ-1000, EZPi-1000,
G500 a RT7X0 during print and stripp. Almost all parts of liner rewinder are metalic that ensure long lifetime and - thanks the weight - very good
 stability on workplace as well.

Installation:

Place printer on the top of liner rewinder. The pin on top of liner rewinder must go down in the cut-out on the bottom of the printer.
Liner rewinder is powered with printer power supply that connect to the rear panel of liner rewinder. Than connect power cable with jack
that comes from the rear panel of liner rewinder to power slot on rear panel of the printer. Power supply can be permanently connected to
the wall socket. Only in case that liner rewinder will not be use for long time, it is recomended to unplug it from wall socket.

Now, when power switch on front panel of liner rewinder is switched on, rewinder shaft starts to rotate. Printer can be switch
on with standard way according to instruction in user manual of particular printer model. Rewinder shaft is driven via clutch. Torque
of this clutch is possible adjust with nut on the front end of this shaft. Adjusting is necessary to make when liner rewinder is switched off.

It is necessary to install catch metal plate for RT7X0(i) printers or catch metal clips for  G500. These parts ensure door of stripper
against opening. Trend to open stripper dor is caised with force that rewinder shaft tighten liner. Catch metal plate is mount in right hole
on top cover of RT printer using rubber anchor. See enclosed picture. Catch metal plate must be firmly pressed to top cover of printing
mechanism during and after tightening screw of the anchor otherwise this metal plate blocks correct closing of the printer mechanism.
Catch metal clips is used for G500. These clips are slide on tear – off plate that is on top cover of the printer. All is clearly visible on
 enclosed pictures.

Using of liner rewinder:

Remove labels from liner in appropriate lenght to reach rewinder shaft and load it in stripper and than continue to rewinder shaft.
Fix end of liner under rewinder shaft clip and rotate by hand with rewinder shaft to fasten liner on the shaft. Close printer head and check
that the catch metal plate ensure stripper against opening. Switch on rewinder. Rewinder shaft tighten liner. Now it is possible to start
printing and stripping of labels. Label liner is rewind on rewinder shaft during printing.

When media is not stable and goes to the left and/or to the right, there is too high torque adjust on rewinder shaft. It is necessary
to loose adjusting nut.  The smaller width of the media is, the smaller torque is necessary to adjust. Contralily – wide media accept high torque.

Maintanance:

Liner rewinder is maintanance free device. When it is necessary to clean it, use cloth wet in alcohol.

How to capture a print code file in Windows for Godex label printers that use Windows driver

How to capture a print code file in Windows for printers that use Windows driver

In order to reproduce your environment, it is always good to have the precise that data that is coming out of your system. There are few ways to capture a printfile under Windows OS, the result of all of them is the same, you capture the print file, however the approaches are a bit different, choose the one that is most suitable for you:

  1. The easiest way is to use the Seagull Drivers Function: Logging. Pleaser go to the Control Panel-> Devices and Printers, right click on the desired printer, select Properties:

Then select Tools Tab and click Logging Options:

Tick the box Record Printer Code and select the path where the captured files should be stored:

When this function is turned on, all the printjobs that will be printed via the driver, will be saved under the directory you selected, e.g.:

in the directory we selected: C:\Log Files\Godex RT230i, you will find text files (extension .prn), when you open the files with text editor (e.g. notepad) you will see similar to the below contents:

If the printjob contains graphical information, you will see some unclear information represented in symbols, this part is the bitmap graphics part.

2. Second possible way is to use the “File” port and when you press print, it will ask you to save the file somewhere in your PC.

Navigate to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers. Right click on the desired printer and select Printer properties:

In Printer Properties window, click on Ports tab, look for a port named FILE and select it (tick a box near the port name), press OK:

Initiate printing to needed printer from the application as usual, e.g. MS Word:

You will be prompted to save the file, input some file name and press OK:

After saving the file, please repeat the steps and select the previous port, that was selected before this change in order to continue using your device.

3. Third way is to capture the file from Windows Spooler, in order to do so, physically disconnect the data cable of the printer or use the option “Use Printer Offline” in the printing queue window. Then send the printjob to the printer form the SW as usual, it will issue an error that it can not be printed, then we go to: Run (Win + R) and type in this: %windir%/system32/Spool/printers :

Until the printjob will not be transferred to the printer, we will see it in the Spool Folder, please copy the file from it and save it in other folder:

Then please connect the cable back to the printer or disable the “Use printer offline” function, the printjob in few moments should be printed on the printer and files in the Spool folder will be automatically removed after transferring to the printer.

4. Use Godex Printer Monitor app (https://mega.nz/file/HGAQVD6T#aCi_zLYU_t0xRZP5G5ztd3_ufGhuYKu7jPXkK2tnjOw)

Connect the printer with USB to the PC, if the application uses network port, both of them should be connected at the same time. Send ~S,DUMP8 and it will record all data received by the printer to specified folder in the PC.

Open Tool(PrinterMonitor) and check printer is connected by USB.

Select command “~S,DUMP8” and click "Send"

Send printjobs to the printer and the printcode will be recorder,

To save data to file wait until the icon clears. (When the icon color is green, the tool is receiving data)

Click "Finish writing"

Captured data is saved in a text tile “..\ PrinterMonitor_V1.0.5 \Log"

5. How to get print file on USB stick:

Method 1. If the customer is using the printer with USB HOST:
1.    Plug the printer into a USB flash drive.
2.    Send the command ~S,DUMP255 to the printer.
3.    Follow the customer’s procedure to print.
4.    Remove the USB flash drive after 5 seconds.

Method 2. If the customer is not using the USB HOST:
1.    Run the attached file (Printer Monitor) on the customer’s PC
2.    Connect the printer with COM Port.
3.    Send the command ~S,DUMP255 to the printer.
4.    Follow the customer’s procedure to print.
5.    Printer Monitor will catch the data via COM. Then send this information back to us.

You will get RAW files like this:

6.With Wireshark software :

Printer is receiving data over LAN or WIFI and you connect PC to same network and connect printer over USB.

So for example we are sending print job to IP 192.168.92.182

At Wireshark we are filtering IP adress:

Then we are sellecting line and checking content like this:

And we are getting printfile:

How to install and print with ZPL font at GoDEX label printers

How to install and print with ZPL font at GoDEX label printers

First it is important to understand that there is 4 memory partitions where Font can be stored.

R: - RAM partition - after power off/power on all data will be deleted

E: Flash partition

To use a TrueType Font (TTF) in ZPL, you generally follow a two-step process:

uploading the font to the printer's memory and then recalling it within your label format.

1. Uploading the TTF Font

Please use GoLoader - part of GoTools or also from ZPL driver you can download fonts to internal memory

2. Recalling the Font

Once the font is stored on the printer, there are two main ways to use it in your ZPL code:

Method A: Direct Recall (The ^A@ Command)

Use this if you want to call the font by its filename without assigning it a shortcut letter.

^XA

^FO50,50

^A@N,50,50,E:ARI000.TTF^FDHello World^FS

^XZ

  • ^A@: The "Use Font Name" command.
  • N: Orientation (Normal).
  • 50,50: Height and Width in dots.
  • E:ARI000.TTF: The full path and filename of the stored font.

Method B: Alias Mapping (The ^CW Command)

XA
^CWZ,E:Algerian.TTF  <-- Map Algerian.TTF to letter 'Z'
^FO50,50
^AZN,50,50^FDHello World^FS
^XZ

^CWZ: Assigns the font stored at  E:Algerian.TTF to the identifier Z.

^AZN: Tells the printer to use font Z in Normal orientation.

Use this to assign the TTF to a single-character ID (like Z). This makes your code cleaner if you use the font multiple times.

^XA
^CWZ,E:Algerian.TTF  <-- Map Algerian.TTF to letter 'Z'
^FO50,50
^AZN,50,50^FDHello World^FS
^XZ

[!IMPORTANT]

Reboot Note: If you store a font on the E: drive, the file remains after a reboot, but the ^CW mapping is often lost. It is best practice to include the ^CW command at the beginning of every print job to ensure the mapping is active.

How to Verify Stored Fonts

If you aren't sure of the exact filename on the printer (Zebra often shortens filenames to 8 characters), send this command to print a list of all stored files:

^XA^WDE:*.*^XZ

  • ^WD: Print Directory label.
  • E:*.*: Search for all files on the E: (Flash) drive.

At GoDEX printers using GoDoctor you can list all fonts/data from printer memory using comand: ~MDIR

How to clean GoDEX printers - Printhead Maintenance Guide

How to clean GoDEX printers - Printhead Maintenance Guide

Failure possibilities:

  1. Corrosion - mostly happen if customer is using cleaning material based on watter. Or when humidity in warehouse
interfier with material which is printing and rolls of textile, labels are not in foil protected.
Solution: Protect each roll of label with foil from humidity. Use Godex cleaning pens or 99% isopropyl Alcohol with soft cloth.
  2. Abrasion - mostly come when customer is using direct thermal printeing (not using ribbon).
Customer need to calculate where to invest - in new printhead or in ribbon.
  3. Mehanicly damaged- customer need to educate oprator on printer not to use screw drivers, scalpels .. if some label stuck inside printer.
  4. Overpowered (using too much temperature):
Solution: Depending of material customer can use wax, wax/resin or resin ribbon.
Making good combination between speed, temperature and mechanicly good aligned printhead (between print linie and platen roller) customer will get best results and he will optimise lifetime of printhead.
For example- when customer is changing print head good praxis is also to change print roller.
From examples of good praxis we have share next info (this also depend of printer speed, printhead tension and state of printer):
With wax ribbon customer sholud get good results with temperature up to 9.

Installing Godex Linux Driver

Overview

Godex Linux and macOS drivers are based on CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System), a modular printing system for Unix and Unix-like operating systems. CUPS allows a computer to act as a print server, accepting print jobs, processing them, and sending them to the appropriate printer.

CUPS consists of a print spooler and scheduler, a filter system to convert print data, and a backend system to send data to the printer. More information about CUPS can be found at https://www.cups.org/.

This guide describes the standard installation of the Godex printer driver in a Linux environment. For advanced installation, refer to documents provided with the driver in rastertoezpl-1.1.2/doc and CUPS documentation.

Driver Download

The latest version of the Godex Linux/MAC driver can be found on the Godex International official website under Downloads -> Driver.

Please download the appropriate driver for your operating system.

Image of Godex download page with driver options highlighted (CUPS Printer Driver V1.15 for Ubuntu OS only, and CUPS Printer Driver V1.1.2 for all Linux systems)

Driver Install

1. Launch Terminal and Navigate

Launch a terminal on your Linux machine and change the directory to where you saved the downloaded file:

e.g. cd /home/marius/Desktop/

2. Extract the Archive

Type the following command in the terminal to extract the archive (for newer versions the file name might be different, please pay attention to that):

tar -xzf rastertoezpl-1.1.2.tar.gz

3. Configure the Driver

Change the directory to the extracted archive folder and run the configure command:

cd /home/marius/Desktop/rastertoezpl-1.1.2/
./configure

4. Compile the Driver

Send the command:

make

5. Install the Driver

If your system supports "sudo", use the following command. Otherwise, run "make install" as the root user.

sudo make install

Adding Godex Printer to CUPS

After compiling and installing the filter and PPD files, you need to add a new printer to CUPS. The default CUPS administration interface is at http://localhost:631. Some distributions may use other software for CUPS administration.

1. Open CUPS Web Interface

Open your web browser and enter http://localhost:631 in the address bar.

2. Navigate to Administration

Select "Administration" and then "Add Printer".

Adding USB Connected Printer:

1. Select Local Printer

If your printer is connected via USB, it will appear under "Local Printers". Please select it.

2. Modify Names (Optional)

Make modifications to the printer names if needed.

3. Add Printer

In case of a USB connection, the model should be suggested automatically. Select "Add Printer".

4. Set Default Options

After adding the printer, the "Set default options" window will open, allowing you to set the default printer settings.

Adding TCP/IP Connected Printer:

1. Select AppSocket/HP JetDirect

If you are using an IP connection, select "AppSocket/HP JetDirect". Other protocols may not perform stably.

2. Enter Printer IP/Hostname

Input the IP or hostname of the printer in the "Connection" field. Add /?waiteof=false to the end of the address to eliminate a 5-second timeout that some CUPS distributions have between labels.

Example: socket://192.168.1.4/?waiteof=false

3. Enter Printer Name(s)

Enter the name(s) of the printer in the relevant fields.

4. Select Make: Godex

Select "Godex" as the manufacturer and click "Add Printer".

5. Select Printer Model

Select the appropriate printer model and click "Add Printer".

6. Set Default Options

After adding the printer, the "Set default options" window will open, where you can set the default printer settings.

Adding Godex to USB Quirks File (for CUPS 1.6.4 and higher)

In CUPS 1.6.4 and higher, you can optimize USB communication with Godex printers by adding parameters unidir and no-reattach to the USB Quirks directory. The easiest way is to create a file: /usr/share/cups/usb/godex.usb-quirks with the following content:

# All Godex devices
0x195F unidir no-reattach

More information about the usb-quirks file can be found in the original file located at: /usr/share/cups/usb/org.cups.usb-quirks.

Alternatively, for USB connections, you can send the command ^XSET,USBSPEED,0 to the printer via GoDoctor from a Windows PC or through the web interface to configure the USB interface for use on a Linux system.

Troubleshooting (Common Issues)

1. "checking for cups-config... no" error message

If you receive the error "checking for cups-config... no" and "configure: error: This program is required!" after running ./configure, it means that the "cups-config" program is not installed on your system.

This program is often found in development packages. Please install it using a command and package name compliant with your Linux distribution. [cite: 32] On Ubuntu, you can install it with the following command: [cite: 33]

sudo apt install libcups2-dev

2. Printer irresponsive when sending print jobs

If nothing is printed when you send a print job, ensure that AppArmor (Linux kernel security module) is not blocking the newly installed filter. [cite: 35] For testing purposes, you can disable it. The following commands are for Ubuntu; they might differ for other distributions: [cite: 35]

  • Check profiles:

    sudo cat /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles

  • Disable cupsd profile:

    sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd /etc/apparmor.d/disable
    sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd

  • Check AppArmor status:

    sudo aa-status

Note: Correct configuration of AppArmor is the responsibility of the System Administrator and is not explained in this manual.

Label Applicators

Go to category

Initial setup and triggering modes of Godex AG4000

A new (or after factory reset) AG4000 needs to have an intial setup.

You need to send a command (click for more info) to the printer to set the printer to the correct applicator mode ^XSET,APPLICATOR,0,1 and ^XSET,REWINDER,1 (command must be sent one time). After factory default the applicator mode is reset and you will need to send it once more.

When sending the printjobs, please make sure that correct settings are set up in GoLabel/Driver:

1. Select option - “Applicator” in the LCD and lock the function by tapping the small lock on the left side (see video).

2. Make sure to choose applicator mode in the printer settings in GoLabel/Driver or any other label design SW.

3. Smartback feed/preprint must be turned off

The AG4000 has 3 triggering modes

1. Direct Mode (jumper on and DB15 shorted) After receiving the print job, printer prints the label immediately and application follows the printing. “Trigger” for whole process is the print file.
2. 1 Step trigger mode (jumper off, sensor connected to DB15) After receiving the print file, printer waits for the trigger signal on DB15, after receiving the signal, label is printed and applied directly.
3. 2 Step trigger mode (jumper on, sensor connected to DB15) After receiving the print file, the label is printed immediately, but not applied yet, label is being hold on the labeling pad by vacuum and is applied only after receiving the trigger signal on DB15.

The following fragment from UM has only 1 and 2 modes, as the 3rd Mode was implemented later.

The shorted DB15 connector is delivered together with AG4000

By plugging in the connector with pins 1 and 9 shored, you create full direct mode, because there is permanent start signal.

AG4000 Output signals

AG4000 Print and Apply system provides 4 different output signals that can be used for integrating the machine in the production line and/or adapting it with other systems.

On the side of the AG4000 there are 2 connectors - DB9 and DB15. Each of these signal drive a separate relay, so you can either use internal voltage from AG4000/printer, or connect it to an external voltage, as well as use either NO or NC.

Pinout:

  • Error signal (ERROR 1) - this signal is activated when there is any kind of error either in the printer, or in the applicator. Signal can be used to stop the line and provide alarm to the operator that service is required.

In the video below you will find example of the Error signal:

Please note that if the AG4000 is set OFFLINE, there will be no Error signal, but Ready signal will be inactive.

  • Data Ready (DTR) Signal - this signal  is activated when printer has a printjob in it's buffer that is ready to be printed and waiting for trigger signal (e.g. a label sent from PC to be printed, or a label recalled from printers memory in Standalone). If more than one label is sent to be printed, e.g. 3 labels, DTR signal will stay active until last label is printed.

  • Ready Signal -  this signal is activated when printer has a printjob to be printed in its buffer (DTR is active), AG4000 is ONLINE and not in the cycle. In short - the system is ready to apply the label.

  • Home Signal - this signal is activated when the piston moves out of it's resting position - signal is active when piston is traveling down and up.

If your application requires some special inputs/outputs, it is also possible to use additional signals from ZX1000i/GX4000i GPIO, please refer to the attached PDF for more information or contact your Godex representative.

Cutter Stacker service procedures

During the use of cutter stacker, some routine maintenance must be done, as well as wearable parts should be replaced once worn.

In the video below, you will find the most common procedures of cutter stacker servicing, such as:

  • Blade movement pattern (crankshaft eccenter) adjustment
  • Blade replacement
  • Blade crossing adjustment (might be needed after longer usage for proper cut quality avoiding full blade replacement, as well after blade replacement)
  • Upper blade height adjustment
  • Cleaning of the machine
  • Lubricating the joints

Detailed information you will find in the video below.

Godex Cutter Stacker Device Service Procedures

This document provides detailed service instructions for the Godex Cutter Stacker device, extracted from the official service video. Please ensure to follow all safety precautions.

Source Video: Godex Cutter Stacker Servicing Guide

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Before making any adjustments, always turn off the machine and unplug the power cord.

1. Initial Steps

  1. Before making any adjustments, turn off the machine and unplug the power cord [00:04].
  2. Unscrew the two screws to remove the metal cover of the Cutter Stacker unit [00:11].
  3. For convenience, you can put the CS unit back on to the printer, but be careful as it will be loose and can fall down. Alternatively, you can use an appropriate nut to fix it on the printer [00:34].
  4. Remove the two screws and remove the knife safety cover [00:51].

2. Adjusting the Crankshaft/Eccentric

  1. Release the screw [01:22].
  2. Hold the pin at the sensor position [01:28].
  3. Adjust the eccentric (labeled as 4) with a key so that the upper knife, at the sensor resting position, would be at the top most moving position [01:28].
  4. Retighten the screw [01:28].
  5. Ensure the screw is moderately tight so you can manually move the pin but it won't slide. You should be able to adjust the eccenter with the key. While adjusting, manually move the pin and see how the upper knife behaves. At the resting position (when the pin is at the sensor), the knife should be at the top most position, and when you move the pin/motor forward, the knife should go down [01:48].
  6. Once you find the right eccenter position, retighten the screw with proper force. Make sure the eccenter and pin are snug [02:18].

3. Blade Replacement/Adjustment

  1. Release the screw and loosen the ring/spring [02:36].
  2. Release the upper knife screw and take it out [02:43].
  3. Then you can remove the upper blade [03:00].
  4. Remove the right guide [03:06].
  5. Pay attention to the carriage. Move it all the way to the left guide. PLEASE DO NOT remove the carriage from the CS, as the bearing balls can fall out [03:19].
  6. Remove the screws and slide out the lower blade [03:24].
  7. You might need to take out the positioner screws from the old blade and install them in the new blade [03:34].
  8. Install the blades in the reverse order. Do not fully tighten the screws yet. You need to have them fairly loose for blade crossing adjustment with the small positioner screws on the lower blade [03:43].
  9. Install the upper blade. Pay attention to the PINS and notch [03:56].
  10. The upper blade screw should be tightened with proper force; please use a towel to hold the knife when tightening to avoid any possible injury [04:21].
  11. Check the "play" and if the blade is moving properly [04:29].

4. Blade Adjustment (Blade Crossing)

  1. Correct blade crossing needs to be set up for proper cutting performance and blade lifespan [04:33].
  2. For blade adjustment, you need a 0.2-0.3 mm gauge (Fühlerlehre) [04:38].
  3. Make sure that the ring is loose [04:46].
  4. Move the blade down so that it would be in the lowest position [04:50].
  5. With the small positioner screws, adjust the lower blade that on the left side it would be possible to insert the ~0.2 mm gauge. PLEASE MAKE SURE that the bottom blade bigger screws are loose enough to support the skewing [04:53].
  6. Retighten the bigger screws, double-check if the gauge fits in. IMPORTANT - the spring should be loose when making this measurement/adjustment [05:28].

5. Blade Height Adjustment

  1. Correct blade height adjustment is needed for proper operation. The resting position should be parallel to the metal block [05:43].
  2. Release the screw [05:50].
  3. Adjust the upper blade to the parallel position [06:03].
  4. Retighten the screw and test the blade play [06:09].
  5. Retighten the spring ring. Distance should be ~13-17 mm. The smaller the distance, the higher the force to the upper blade [06:17].
  6. Check the function over the whole knife width [06:33].

6. Ribbon Shield Adjustment

  1. The TTR Shield is a metal part that helps to separate the TTR from Textile. The correct adjustment might differ with different medias [06:49].
  2. Position the TTR shield so that it would be as close to the TPH as possible. Reassemble everything [07:33].

7. Reassembling the Unit

  1. Reassemble the unit [07:39].
  2. Mount the cover [08:22].

8. Cutting Line Adjustment

  1. Sometimes you might need to adjust the cut line skew position. To do so, you can use the 4 screws on the base plate of the CS [08:58].
  2. By turning these screws, you can adjust the base position how the CS "sits" on the printer [09:02].

9. Cutter Stacker Cleaning

  1. It is necessary to regularly clean the machine to have proper print and cut results. For daily used machines, you must clean the printer printhead, platen roller, and the blades at least once a week [09:08].
  2. Remove media and first blow the dust and debris with compressed air from the print and cut mechanism [09:12].
  3. For printhead and platen cleaning, you can use special wipes soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Alternatively, you can use a lint-free wipe and soak it with isopropyl by yourself [09:23].
  4. You might try to clean the TPH without removing the Cutter Stacker unit, however, the quality of such cleaning is limited [09:26].
  5. To clean the platen roller, you can take it out [09:36].
  6. The best cleaning results you will get when you will remove the CS unit and clean all of the important parts. By having the CS unit removed, you will have good access to them [09:51].
  7. You can clean the blades with WD40. If you see dust or other residue on the blades, first use compressed air to blow the debris out and then with WD40 spray on the cloth and wipe the blades. It is not necessary to remove them. When doing this, THE MACHINE MUST BE TURNED OFF AND UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAINS! [10:07].
  8. If you experience any issues with textile sticking to the blade, you might consider applying some silicon grease/oil to the blades [10:56].
  9. Carefully apply the grease on to the blade. You might consider taking off the safety cover to rub it to the upper blade as well. MACHINE MUST BE UNPLUGGED from the mains [11:06].

10. Lubricating the Joints

  1. From time to time, especially when using the machine intensively, you need to lubricate the joints of mechanisms. If the machine is used intensively, you need to lubricate once a month [11:18].
  2. Lubricate the indicated joints [11:24], [11:53].
Remember to consult the official Godex documentation or a certified technician if you encounter any difficulties or require further assistance.

Cutter Stacker does not cut full width. How to fix.

Problem: Cutter stacker does not cut full width any more

Problem example video from customer:

We see that only the left part of the label is cut. Customer is cutting satin textile material. Satin is soft and more demanding material than nylon or paper. From the video it seems that most likelly the issue is worn blades, however before replacing the blades to new or resharpened ones, it is possible to readjust the blade crossing and use the same blades for a while.

The procedure how to adjust the blade crossing is shown visually here: https://youtu.be/Iw-Pmbh38HM?si=dE2QoFDNYI4NXJ9X&t=274 If you are doing this for the first time, please watch the full video before starting to see the generall disassembly/reassembly procedures of the Cutter Stacker unit.

IMPORTANT:

1. When adjusting blade crossing, the upper blade tension spring must be loose:

2. It is a must to use Feeler Gauge for the correct blade gap measurment/adjustment. Target gap between blades is ~0,2-0,3 mm (making adjustments "from the eye" and/or setting too big blade crossing might result in premature wear of the blades)

3. When measuring the GAP between blades, the upper blade must be on the lowest position and the tip of the upper blade must be pushed/hold towards the lower blade.

4. The blade crossing/gap between blades adjutment is made by turning the grub screws on the right side of the lower blade.

5. When adjusting the grub screws please make sure that the blade screws are loose enough to let the blade skewing adjustment. However when blade crossing measurment is made, the lower blade should be stable.

Another possible cause of not cutting the full width could be the position of upper blade. However this is more applicable in cases when wider labels are cut. The adjustment procedure is shown here: https://youtu.be/Iw-Pmbh38HM?si=tgtKFejhxWmxHhZz&t=344

How to set up GPIO for AG2000 on a ZX1x00(X)i(+)/GX4x00i

The printer GPIO must be configured to internal 5V configuration. Please see jumper config below:

IMPORTANT: Incorrect (24V GPIO config) will burn the AG2000 control box, so please make sure that 5V is set up.

After setting the correct jumper/voltage config, you need to send a command (click for more info) to the printer to set the printer to the correct applicator mode ^XSET,APPLICATOR,0,1 (command must be sent one time). After factory default the applicator mode is reset and you will need to send it once more.

When sending the printjobs, please make sure that correct settings are set up in GoLabel/Driver:

1. select option “on” and then “applicator” in the display menu. Lock the function

2. no backfeed (Tearoff/Stop position = 0 mm)

3. applicator mode in printer settings in label software

4. Smartback feed/preprint turned off

AG2000 Precision. Application with and without fan

AG2000 is a cost effective fully automatic print&apply solution. AG2000 uses simple approach to address higher line/product speeds.

Applicator arm, right after the dispensing edge, incorportates a fan to create vacuum and hold the dispensed label straight. The whole idea of this is to have just a little bit of the label left on the dispensing edge (~10-20 mm), the fan is needed to hold the "free" label part straight:

after receiving the trigger signal from photo sensor or PLC, we quickly dispense the rest of the label and it is being "catched" by the moving product and immediately pulled with product speed, while the next label is being printed with printer speed. By these means, we are able to address higher product speed than the printer speed. Disadvantage of this, however, is slightly worse precision of label placement on the product.

If higher precsion is needed, you can also use the 1 to 1 approach, but in this case, the printer and product speeds must be virtually equal.

Standalone CSV Database in Godex label printer. Remote update

For some working places it is important to have standalone label printing solution and update the information from time to time. All Godex label printers with USB Host interfaces are capable of handling the CSV/DBF Standalone operation. Also it is possible to remotely update the files in the printer if the printer is connected to the network.

Below is a simple example/tutorial how to set this up.

We have a simple text file (CSV):

Also we make a simple label in GoLabel2 that includes information from the CSV Database:

When we create the file in GoLabel 2, we select Download label to the printer (or USB, if desired), select AUTOFR and Automatic quantity 1:

And load the files to the printer, restart the printer and test the file.

To update the files in the printer, you first need to get out of the AUTOFR, to do that, the easiest way is to select "Advanced->Exit AutoFR" in GoLabel 2:

One label will be printed and it will get back to Ready Screen (you should be using AUTOFR to get back to Ready, if you entered the Standalone via "Recall label", it will return to select label screen).

Once in Ready Mode, delete the needed files first

And then, reconnect to the modified DB and load the files to the printer. After the files are loaded, select "Restart Printer". It will reboot back into the AUTOFR:

Shrink tube printer. Printing shrink tubes on Godex RT200

You can easily print shrink tubes on your Godex printer.

We install the shrink tube roll and resin ribbon inside the printer and make calibration. In this particular example, we use 25 mm wide shrink tube. In case you would require to print narrower tubes, we can offer you special adapters to accomodate narrower media, also it is possible to have few rows at the same time.

Then make in GoLabel a label format (select continues media type)

Temperature/Speed settings you must fine tune to get the best results:

Function acrossgap have ability to see several labels like one (to ignore gap between).

In this case one label is 49mm seconf 75 and gap 32 wich make 156mm

So we send ^Q156,32

In Golabel then you make lanel 80mmx156mm with 32 mm gap and printer is ready to print. Precison on 156 mm long label cca 1mm.

Godex Pro Series

Godex Pro Series core advantages:

  1. PDF Direct print. Today PDF files are used everywhere. Normally a driver is needed to convert the file to format that is “understood” by the printer, with PDF Direct print you can simply “drop” the whole file with its embedded fonts, encoding, etc. directly to the printer and it will be printed, eliminating the need for middleware. PDF Direct function helps to simplify the programing and enables universality, as you do not need to learn and tie with some particular printer language. PDF files after printing can be archived and used for reference in case of any issues or so.

Files can be sent over various methods, you can use our EZio DLL Library, read the file into a “byte array” and send it via EZioApi.sendbuf() function, you can copy it via command line, FTP or similar. For more information, please see this article, at the very bottom of the page there is also some demo application that works as a “Watch dog” – it monitors a folder and when a new PDF appears, sends it automatically via FTP and moves the file to another folder: https://www.godex.lu/content/8/86/en/how-to-use-directpdf-print-and-godex-pro-printers-series.html?highlight=pdf

A test video of this demo application you can find here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/5WAre1rjKmDhBSm2A

  1. WiFi/BT Dongle support. To provide even more universality, Godex Pro Series models support third party WiFi/BT dongles. Different applications have different requirements, with USB dongle of your choice, we can effectively address all of these different needs, whether you need 5 GHz or 2,4, with or without external Antenna, WPA3 Enterprise or any other.

  1. 802.1x support. 802.1X network differs from simple networks in one major way: every device that connects has a unique form of validating its identity, rather than all sharing the same Wi-Fi password. 802.1x does this by utilizing a RADIUS server, whose sole purpose is checking a user's credentials to see if they are an active member of the organization and, depending on the network policies, grants users varying levels of access to the network. This allows unique credentials or certificates to be used per user, eliminating the reliance on a single network password that can be easily stolen. It’s much more secure than using a single password to gate network access and is widely considered the gold standard for both wired and wireless network security.

  1. A lot more memory on board and Linux OS. The table below shows the main spec’s of the Pro Series. Industrial Pro models have more advanced specs, but desktop ones are also powerful enough to cope with demanding applications and onboard processing of special tasks. Linux OS compared to older proprietary OS’es enables easy further development of functions on board, thanks to standardized development environment and existing SDK’s.

How to upgrade Firmware on BT/WiFi Combo ESP32

How to upgrade Firmware on BT/WiFi Combo ESP32

ESP32 WiFi Combo Firmware update process

Printer should be connected to the network over WiFi and you need the IP address that this printer gets from network. This IP you can find from Self-test page or from GoDoctor for example. Then you need to enter this IP in web browser and you will get the screen like below.

There you have two Buttons. “ WiFi” and “ OTA”. This second one “ OTA” is used for FW upgrade. When you click on this button you will get something like on the screen below:

Below the button „ OTA Upgrade” you can see the actual FW version under the “AT Core Version”. In this example it is 2.5.0.0

For FW upgrade you need to select the location of the file with the newest firmware with button “ Browse” and after that click on OTA upgrade. After the upgrade is finish you will get the message on the screen.

After that you need to restart the printer, let the printer connect again to the network. When you again type the IP adress in browser, you ill get the new design of the OTA screen, which is updated with the new functionalities like on the picture below

For any future FW upgrade you will just need to choos from drop down menu “ota” and to do the same with the newer Firmware, if any….

How to use DirectPDF print and Godex Pro printers series

How to use DirectPDF print and Godex Pro printers series

If customer want to use Android OS and his own app we are providing SDK for DirectPDF print

Print PDF by Using Android SDK:

Customers can develop their own applications to print PDF files using the Android SDK in several ways:

1.     Using the SDK's printPDF function:

o    The printPDF function converts the PDF into an image and prints it using the image print command (Q command), adding ^L and E before and after sending the command.

o    Ensure the label size (^Q command) is set appropriately for the PDF.

Result: Prints the PDF file located at filePath with a DPI of 203 and a width of 54mm, with no image dithering.

2.     Using the SDK's putImage function:

o    The putImage function converts the image and sends it using the image print command (Q command).

o    Ensure the label size (^Q command) and manually add ^L and E before and after the image command.

Result: Prints the bitmap image at the label position (0, 0).

3.     Using the writeByte function (for Pro models only):

o    Pro models can directly parse and print PDF files.

o    Developers can read the PDF file into a byte array and send it directly using this function.

Result: Prints the original size of the PDF file.

All three methods have implementation examples in the Tool.java of the SampleCode. Developers can refer to these examples and choose the method that best suits their application design needs.

New dithering option at printPDF function.

How to setup barcode central align in standalone mode with Godex printer

How to setup barcode central align in standalone mode with Godex printer

First need to be set at variable width same like label width

At standalone mode there is different algorithm for align barcode as start point it does not look label it look x- position of variable.

So you create label with barcode in which is variable.

You can see that for barcode line is next line:BQ,160,68,3,8,80,0,3,^V00

What need to be changed is x position to zero: BQ,0,68,3,8,80,0,3,^V00

And save label like cmd and download to printer.

You also only one time need to enable barcode align function with command: ^XSET,BARCODEALIGN,1

So this label is only for standalone and not for printing from PC.

Here is example from which you can make cmd file.

How to create SSCC with custom format human readable under barode numbers and to use same value for text object

How to create SSCC with custom format human readable under barode numbers and to use same value for text object

What is SSCC?

The format of the SSCC is as follows:

GS1 Application Identifier

SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code)

Extension digit

GS1 Company Prefix
──────────────>

Serial reference

Check digit

0 0

N1

N2 N3 N4 N5 N6 N7 N8 N9 N10 N11 N12 N13 N14 N15 N16 N17

N18

The Extension Digit can have any value from 0 to 9 and is used to increase the numbering capacity. Its use is at the discretion of the company allocating the SSCC.

The GS1 Company Prefix (GCP) is allocated by GS1 Member Organisations to the company that allocates the SSCC - here the physical builder or the brand owner of the logistic unit. It makes the SSCC unique worldwide but does not identify the origin of the unit. The length of a GS1 Company Prefix depends on each GS1 Member Organisation's policy on number allocation.

The Serial Reference is a serial number created by the company allocating the SSCC. The simplest way to allocate the serial number is sequentially, for example ….00000, …00001, …00002.

The Check Digit is calculated using the algorithm defined by GS1. [GENSPECS, 7.9.1], also see [CHECK] for a calculator.

More info look below at GS1 website.

Difference how to use driver settings between GoLabel and GolabelPDF

Difference how to use driver settings between GoLabel and GolabelPDF

If customer want to set in driver additional commands for example in below 4 cases:

Of course commands can be different depending of customers need.

Here is URL in driver how to come to Advanced options:

To be able to use this option customer need to use GolabelPDF and not GoLabel.

Here is the logic:

  1. Using the Driver as a “channel”, send .prn data to a printer. Under this method, any setting in the Driver will not apply.
  2. Using the Driver as a “converter”, let the driver convert image file into . prn and then to a printer.

How to communicate with GoDEX printers using MQTT

This guide provides information about how to communicate with GoDEX printers using MQTT.

It is intended for software integrators and developers who want to write applications that will use MQTT to interact with GoDEX Pro series printers.

Our Pro series support MQTT commands. Users can make their software to communicate with our printers via MQTT  protocol.

However, the following conditions and actions are required:

1.       Requires an MQTT Server

2.       Use the attached GoMQTT setup printers to connect to the MQTT server

3.       The user’s software must also connect to the same MQTT server.

4.       User’s software needs to communicate with the printer in the attached JSON format.

Here developers and integrators can download GoMQTT setup printers and API: LINK

How to solve manual labelling after cutting boards and problems with part identification with GoDEX printers

Solution: Barbaric LPS - Labeling Printer Solution

The Labeling Printer LPS perfectly completes Barbaric's range of products in the field of panel handling and offers an optimal extension of our storage or feeding systems for part cutting. With this unit, boards can be labelled even before they are cut to size.

Features

The Labeling Printer LPS can be implemented in a wide variety of set-up variants: as a stand-alone printer in a panel storage system, behind a pressure beam saw with direct feeding by means of a toothed belt conveyor or in front of a nesting machine with the corresponding conveyor unit. The same printer or applicator unit is used for all variants, only the lengths of the axes are different.

The communication to higher-level controllers is very simple. The LPS label printer only requires the finished generated labels in JPG or BMP image format and a position file for each cutting plan. Thus the creation of the labels is purely on the side of the cutting plan or nesting optimization.

All benefits at a glance

  • Fully automated labelling without operator intervention
  • Human error when applying labels is eliminated
  • Labelling before cutting or nesting
  • Part identification with unique and unambiguous part number
  • One printer for several processing machines (only for the standalone version)
  • Effective and trouble-free cutting
  • Alternatively also with manual labelling after cutting for small parts
  • Standard label sizes but also customized labels can be used

Be inovate, be persisit, be yours - GoDEX Team.
